[ngluggxr] Human alternation of generations

September 27, 2019

Each diploid human produces as offspring a bunch of haploid organisms, namely sperm or eggs (which happen to be single-cell organisms) which live haploid lives until they find another haploid partner, after which they fuse to create a new diploid organism, two generations separated from the parent diploid organisms.  Your child is actually your grandchild.

Human haploid organisms don't do the fancier things haploid organisms of other species do: cell division, asexual reproduction, being able to survive "outside" (for very long).

There are probably some fun legal ramifications of your sperm or eggs being entities legally distinct from you.
