Consider considerably modifying American football:
The only offensive play permitted is the pass. Play ends at catch; no running after catch.
The only defensive plays are interceptions and batting the ball down. No tackling.
Many ideas borrowed from basketball. The quarterback operates on a shot clock. Also very similar to ultimate frisbee, except we imagine the play resets to formations after a pass attempt.
Adjust the number of players on defense or offense as necessary to make the game interesting.
