‘Bigger and better’ air and tech show kicks off on Friday

The 2nd Air and Tech Show, the Kingdom’s biggest aviation and tech show, will kick off tomorrow at the Pochentong Airbase in Phnom Penh.

Maland Khim, deputy head of the organising committee, told the Khmer Times that it is expecting more than 12,000 local and international visitors to descend at the airbase for the show.

“We are expecting four thousand attendees every day until the show concludes,” he said. The 1st Air and Tech Show last year attracted more than 9,000 visitors.

The show this year, according to Mr Khim, will be much bigger and better than the one last year.

Mr Khim said this year there will be more private and military aircraft on display.

Last year, visitors got a glimpse and were able to get inside various military and private airplanes, including Mil Mi-8 helicopters, Z-9 choppers, MA-60 multi-purpose planes, L-39 trainer jets, MiG-21 fighter aircraft, Airbus H135 helicopters, Mil-Mi-26 transport helicopters, Pipistrel light aircraft, Diamond monoplane and other types of airplanes and helicopters.

The visitors also got the chance to talk with Royal Cambodian Air Force pilots, airline crew and visiting pilots from Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries. Last year, a chopper from Helistar also made several demonstration flights and flew passengers to and from the Pochentong Airbase.

“Visitors will see more airplanes and helicopters this time,” he pointed out.

Mr Khim added that there will be more exhibitors this year. He said there will be also be seminars featuring local and international aviation and tech experts.

Another highlight for the event, according to him, is the remote control and rubber band airplane competitions.

“Except for the aircraft display, the activities will be held inside the NagaWorld hangar at the airbase,” he said.

The Air and Tech Show is organised by Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia Svay Rieng province. This event also has big support from the Royal Cambodian Air Force, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Helistar, Boeing, Cambodia Airports, NagaWorld and other partners.

The event is primarily meant to inspire people, especially youths, to pursue careers in aviation and technology. It also seeks to showcase and promote the advances of Cambodia’s aviation and technology sectors to the outside world.
