Latihan terbang malam dengan pesawat Casa NC212 U-6205 (all photos : Puspenerbal) Latihan terbang malam yang dilaksanakan skuadron 600 wing udara 2 merupakan salah satu fase program latihan yang harus dilaksanakan oleh seorang penerbang dalam kegiatan Konfersi, Captaincy maupun Instruktursi Training kegiatan yang dilaksanakan ini adalah bentuk dukungan Skuadron Operasional kepada Skuadron 200/ Latih dalam meningkatkan profesi penerbang. Dalam kegiatan Terbang malam seorang penerbang akan diuji kemampuan terbang tanpa adanya visibility (jarak pandang) atau dalam istilah penerbangan disebut Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). Kemampuan ini harus dimiliki oleh setiap pilot/penerbang militer. Dimana seorang pilot harus menggunakan semua instrument yang di pesawat untuk melaksanakan Take Off, bernavigasi dan juga landing.
Pada kesempatan kali ini (23/12) Pesawat Casa NC212 U-6205 yang dimiliki oleh Skuadron 600 Wing Udara 2, mengambil bagian dalam pelaksanaan program Captaincy Training guna mencetak Captain Pilot baru. Terlihat pada latihan kali ini siswa Captaincy sedang melaksanakan fase latihan Terbang Malam, dimana siswa diharapkan mampu memahami prosedur terbang malam dan mengaplikasikan dalam praktik terbang malam yang dilaksanakan. The ceremony ended with the lowering of the state flags of Russia and Laos and the drills’ flag and with a ceremonial parade. "The commanders of the drills from both countries noted that the first joint military exercise of Russia and Laos in their history was held at a high level, which will eventually contribute to developing military and military-technical cooperation between Russia and Laos," the press office added.
The first joint Russian-Laotian drills of armored units dubbed Laros-2019 kicked off on December 10 and involved over 500 troops from both countries. The tank crews of the motorized infantry formation stationed in the Trans-Baikal Region, and also a logistic support platoon and an army medical unit represented Russia in the drills. The Laotian Defense Ministry was represented by tactical groups of armored and reconnaissance units, radiation, chemical and biological protection units and signal troops.

The speaker was reported to be Li Zhonghua who is said to have participated in Exercise Falcon Strike 2015 in Thailand. One of the slides showed the score during each day of the exercise and during the first day, the Thais flying the Gripen were beaten 16-0. Another slide shows that although the Thais did very badly on the first day. These were dogfights and the Gripen fared better in the beyond-visual-range (BVR) arena. With 24 percent of the kills at range beyond 50km.

Too much focus was on front of the aircraft rather than all round. There was a lack of coordination between the attacking aircraft and its sweeper escorts. The pilots were not experience in avoiding missile shots. Their response were too mechanical and could not judge correctly on the evasive techniques for missiles with different ranges. In large scale air battles, the Thais were able to score kills while playing the attacker by taking down the Chinese defenders. When the Chinese attack, they had difficulty making it pass the Thai defenders. The only success for the Chinese when attacking is when they were protected by the Gripen, that was a low-level attack.

In 2 vs 2 scenarios, the Chinese found that they are poor in judging the threat and the evasive actions were insufficient. The fire control and weapons integration for the J-11 is still behind the Saab Gripen. Despite dominating in the dogfight arena, the Chinese still picked up important lessons from the Thai. They found that when dealing with Thai attacks using the Sun as cover, the strategy of the Chinese are simplified. When in an advantageous position, the Chinese were in a rush to score victory and fell into traps put up by the Thais. (Alert5)

Preparations have been completed for the first ever Russian-Lao military exercise Laros 2019, to be held in Laos on December 10-19, the press service of the Eastern Military District has said. A total of 500 Russian and Lao servicemen will participate. Russia will delegate tank crews from a mechanized infantry unit stationed in the Eastern Military District, the Transbaikal Region. The participating contingents will exchange experience of using combat equipment in forest, swampy and mountain terrain and practice the tactic of joint operations in the jungle. For the period of the exercise the Lao military will provide T-72MS tanks, armored reconnaissance vehicles, machine guns and automatic rifles for the Russian troops. (TASS)
